The Winter Skin Care Routine That Will Save Your Dull Complexion

You’re perfectly aware that you indulged over the holidays. Your dehydrated skin, puffy eyes and a pimple or two are the result of too many sweets and not enough rest during the festive season. Just as you toss your post-holiday skin sins aside and start your new healthy beauty habits of 2017, another skin care dilemma makes an appearance… Say hello to the dreaded dull winter complexion.

Chilly winds and lack of humidity are sucking the moisture out of your skin and making it even more sensitive and reactive than normal. Even the oilier skin types are experiencing uncharacteristic dryness and flaking. Says Megan Mayer from Huffington Post Beauty, “As the temperatures continue to drop, the dry environment and lack of moisture allows for cracked hands, chapped lips and scaly legs.” Your skin has lost its lustre and looks downright lifeless.

Here’s how to tackle that dull winter skin. Since your skin changes with the seasons, we’ve created a routine for all skin types that addresses winter issues and returns your complexion to radiance:

1. CLEANSE:

Chilly temperatures and indoor heating are serious culprits for draining the moisture from your complexion. Try adding a hydrating, cream-based cleanser like our antioxidant-rich Firm Skin Acai Cleanser to your winter skin care routine. Dry skin types benefit from daily use of this cleanser while oily to combination skin types can try alternating a cream-based cleanser with a gel-based cleanser like our Citrus Exfoliating Wash.

2. EXFOLIATE:

Exfoliation is the best way to revive dull, winter skin. However, it’s important to keep in mind that frigid temperatures and harsh winds can also make your skin more reactive. Fit Fab Fun recommends our Calm Skin Chamomile Exfoliating Peel:

“Thanks to Eminence‘s new line of at-home exfoliating peels, your skin will look awesome. We love the Chamomile version, which soothes and renews even the most sensitive skin sans irritation and redness… And unlike some harsh formulas on the market, you can use this gentle one up to three times a week”.

3. TONE:

Another easy way to keep your skin hydrated during the winter months is using a toner. Try our Stone Crop Hydration Mist which features the healing and nourishing qualities of the stone crop plant.

4. TREAT:

Éminence masques and facial oils are the perfect way to deliver an intense dose of nutrients and moisture to the skin. We recommend our new Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil. This effective facial treatment is comprised of a blend of results-oriented actives and ingredients that provide intense hydration and protection. It can be used morning and night, and is suitable for all skin types.

Bring balance to your wintertime complexion with our Balancing Masque Duo. This dual-action masque allows you to target oilier areas with the Charcoal T-Zone Purifier while the Pomelo Cheek Treatment adds a powerful dose of moisture to the drier area of your face.

Don’t forget to give extra attention to the delicate skin around your eyes. This region is the first area to show signs of dryness and aging. Nourish and hydrate the eye area daily with our Bearberry Eye Repair Cream.

5. MOISTURIZE:

And last, but definitely not least, moisturize! Even though the sun isn’t as strong during the colder months, sun damage can still occur. Apply an SPF moisturizer daily like our Tropical Vanilla Day Cream SPF 32. At night, lock in moisture with our Firm Skin Acai Moisturizer.

To enhance your winter skin care routine even further, try our selection of cold weather essentials that bring vitality back to your wintertime complexion.
